Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin Named High Performing in Hip Replacement by U.S. News & World Report
ELGIN, IL (August 5, 2025) — Saint Joseph Hospital, a member of Prime Healthcare, has been recognized as High Performing in Hip Replacement by U.S. News & World Report in its 2025–2026 Best Hospitals edition. This designation is the highest distinction awarded in the publication’s Procedures & Conditions ratings.
U.S. News & World Report evaluated more than 4,400 hospitals across 15 specialties and 22 procedures and conditions. Ratings were based on objective data, including risk-adjusted mortality, preventable complications, nursing quality, and patient outcomes drawn from over 800 million care records. For hip replacement, additional factors included survival rates, infection rates, recovery at home, hospital stay length, and patient volume. Only 499 hospitals nationwide received a High Performing rating, indicating significantly better outcomes.
“For more than three decades, U.S. News has been an invaluable guide for patients,” said Ben Harder, Managing Editor and Chief of Health Analysis at U.S. News & World Report. “Hospitals designated as ‘HighPerforming’ demonstrate a consistent ability to provide excellent care for specific medical procedures and conditions, showcasing their specialized expertise and commitment to patient outcomes.”
“This recognition is a direct reflection of the expertise and dedication of our orthopedic surgeons, nurses, and care teams,” said Eva Balderrama, CEO of Saint Joseph Hospital. “Their commitment to clinical excellence and compassionate care continues to deliver strong outcomes for joint replacement procedures. With Prime Healthcare’s continued investment in advanced technologies, we remain focused on serving the Elgin community with the highest standards of care.”
In addition to its recognition from U.S. News, Saint Joseph Hospital also received “A” grades from the Lown Institute Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility for its performance in overall social responsibility, health equity, and delivering high-value, equitable care. The Lown Index evaluates hospitals across the country based on a combined analysis of equity, value, and patient outcomes.
